Why is
listening one of the most difficult skills to develop when learning English?
When we are children, we begin to develop our
listening skills based on the language that is spoken in our environment, it is
called; mother tongue or L1. with time our brain gets used to this first
language, and develops it more, that is why when we start learning a second
language, it is usually a little more difficult to get used to this one.
Listening skills require a great deal of
concentration and focus. Listening in a foreign language can be particularly
challenging because of the unfamiliar sounds and words and the need to process
the information quickly. Additionally, many English learners struggle with
understanding native speakers as they may speak too quickly, use slang and
idioms, and use unfamiliar accents.
How can listening skill be improved?
