What is the smallest alphabet in the world?
As we have already seen and studied about the largest or longest alphabet in the world. Today we share the shortest alphabet in the world, which is basically the opposite of the first one.
There are multiple alphabets in the world but "rotokas" has a very peculiar feature, which has aroused the curiosity of many people; it is the shortest or smallest in the world.
The rotokas is derived from the Latin and has only 12 letters!!!
Division
This 12-letter alphabet is divided into 7 consonants and 5 vowels.
In its most modern conception it looks like this:
A-E- G- I- K- O- P- R- S- T- U- V
History
The "Rotokas" language is a native language of Pupua New Guinea, a country located north of Australia, west of the Solomon Islands and southwest of the Pacific Ocean.
This alphabet is derived from the Latin alphabet and it is estimated that about 4,000 people speak it.
For example: inhabitants of the island of Bougainville, in the Solomon Islands archipelago, in Papua New Guinea and east of Australia.
It is not very common to find many writings of this language, as most of them were written by the Australian linguists Irwin Firchow and Stuart Robinson. In 1987 Firchow published a grammatical erasure of the "Rotokas" but this is not very easy to find. Many scholars consider this language to be the simplest of the nearly 7,100 languages in existence.
Interesting facts
An interesting fact about this language is that there are no nasal sounds, which are made when pronouncing the letter "n" and are usually only audible when native speakers try to imitate foreigners' attempt to speak Rotokas.
Just over four thousand people speak this language, which began in three dialects:
-central.- a more general dialect.
-Aita - a more peculiar dialect
-pipipaya - more specific to the area.
